PHRA 1345 - Compounding Sterile Preparations

This course provides pharmacist and technician focused instruction and training for the successful production of sterile parenteral preparations, a major responsibility of the pharmacy technician in hospitals, long-term care facilities, and home healthcare. The process of compounding sterile preparations and aseptic technique within legal and regulatory guidelines specified by USP <797>standards. A study of sterile products, hand washing techniques, pharmaceutical calculations, references, safety techniques, aseptic techniques in parenteral compounding, proper use of equipment, preparation of sterile products, and safe handling of antineoplastic drugs. This important work requires the mastery of aseptic technique: the procedures that avoid introducing pathogens into sterile products, ensure patient safety, and maintain product consistency. CPE activity completers will receive certificate of course completion and statement of ACPE credit for 40 hours/4.0 CEUs.
