The Associate of Applied Science Registered Nursing Program is a two-year, 60-credit hour curriculum leading to an associate of applied science in Associate Degree Nursing (ADN). Program. Students who successfully complete the ADN program are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN®) to become a registered nurse (RN).
Students must maintain “C” or better grades in ALL nursing and science courses and an overall 2.0 grade point averages (GPAs) to graduate from the Lamar State College Orange Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) Program. To be considered for admission to the Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) Program, students must be accepted to LSCO and have submitted transcripts from ALL colleges and universities attended. Applicants must also submit the following to the Nursing Department by the application deadline:
- An application to the Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) Program (located on the LSCO website) dated within the last current year.
- Degree Plan from Degree Works showing transcript evaluation and course equivalency.
- Evolve Reach Admission Assessment (A²) Exam profile taken within one year of application deadline indicating a composite score of 75 or higher with an 80 or higher in reading, and a 75 or higher in anatomy and physiology.
Complete information about the Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) Program, including admission requirements, application deadlines, criminal background policy, and current application forms, is available on the LSCO website or from the Nursing Administrative Assistant located in the Stark Nursing and Classroom Building.
After acceptance into the Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) Program, students must provide the following additional information:
- Proof of current CPR certification
- History and Physical Examination, including proof of immunization
- Negative or clear Criminal Background Check (blue card, outcome letter of eligibility, and/or a Declaratory Order

NOTE: Criminal history MAY disqualify individuals from obtaining or maintaining nursing certifications even if they have completed LSCO’s RN program.
After acceptance into the Associate Degree Registered Nursing Program, students must provide the following additional information:
- Proof of current CPR certification
- History and Physical Examination, including proof of immunization
- Negative or clear Criminal Background Check (blue card, outcome letter of eligibility, and/or a Declaratory Order
Completion of the Registered Nursing Transition Program does NOT guarantee that a graduate may take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nursing (NCLEX-RN®). The Texas Board of Nursing may deny an applicant for initial licensure who:
- has ever been cited, arrested, charged with or convicted of a crime, or received a deferred order, with or without an adjudication of guilt for a felony or misdemeanor offense other than a minor traffic violation or Minor in Possession (MIP);
- has had a misdemeanor conviction involving moral turpitude within the last ten (10) years;
- has been diagnosed with or treated or hospitalized within the past five years for schizophrenia or other psychotic disorders, bipolar disorder, paranoid personality disorder, anti-social personality disorder or borderline personality disorder;
- has been, within the past five (5) years, addicted to or treated for the use of alcohol or any other drug; or
- has been denied licensure or disciplined by any licensing/certifying authority.
