Medical assistants complete administrative and clinical tasks in the offices of physicians, hospitals, and other healthcare facilities. Their duties vary with the location, specialty, and size of the practice. They take and record patients’ personal information and must be able to keep that information confidential, discussing only with other medical personal who are involved in treating the patient.
Students must have the following to attend clinicals:
- Health assessment by physician or nurse practitioner on form provided
- Hepatitis B Vaccination
- TB Skin Test
- Clear Background Check
Students who present an active Texas Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Certified Nurses Aides, National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Phlebotomy Technician, and/or Health EKG Technician Licenses for respective course(s) will have the coursework applied and articulated towards this degree. Please contact the Program Director for additional information. A copy of the Texas Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Certified Nurses Aides, National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Phlebotomy Technician, and/or Health EKG Technician Licenses will need to be submitted to LSCO Admissions.
